Solent Lee was converted from a coastal tanker, Oarsman, to a suction dredger in 1973 operated by Normandie Dredging & Shipping Ltd. She operated around the Solent from 1973 until around 1977, when she was sold to Redland Purle. It was probably at this time that she was used to dump waste.

Solent Lee was not a Dredger. Solent Lee together with Humber Lee and Sandstone dumped waste from Pfizer Chemical Plant a number of km off the coast. They were later replaced by mv Roaches Point. Regards Frank
