Description:
Western Isles Ferries' SOUND OF GIGHA leaving Port Askaig on Islay,in the Western Isles of Scotland, for the Isle of Jura,in August 1988. A day after I took this photograph I travelled on the ferry and on the return journey across the Sound of Islay, the skipper had to go half a mile past Port Askaig due to the strength of the tide race.

The hills in the background are known as the Paps of Jura and the island is where George Orwell isolated himself to write his book '1984'.
