Description:

Scanned from an old 35mms. photo. Sorry for the quality...

At Caripito, Venezuela...and no..., the photo it´s not in casualties category,... tankers just run aground against the mud and mangroves to turn 180 deg. with the help of the river current ( Rio San Juan ). Maneuver exactly at the moment of H.Tide changing to L.Tide. Usual and normal maneuver before docking at Caripito Oil Terminal.

Hello Ventuari
This ship was lenghtened and converted to a bulk carrier in 2006

The "Photo Details" box shows the picture being taken in 1994, the vessel being 12 years old if buildt in 1982, at time of picture. But true, how come it is listed as "CSL Acadian", a bulk carrier?

Hi ventuari,
Do you maybe have another photo showing the ship's bow "stuck" in the trees-mangroves during the 180 degree turning maneuver in the river.

: if so, thanks in advance!

Is it correct the "CSL Acadian" to be the same ship? The "Cabo de Hornos" seems to be a tanker, not a bulker. May be a conversion took place. It is rare for a tanker built in 1982, to be still in service. If so, she probably is one of the first double hulled tankers to be comissioned.
