In the late summer of 1966 the London Valour loaded oil at Gela, Sicily for Dordrecht and Rotterdam. This rustic scene of reed gathering had a timelessness about it that for me is as striking now as the day I took it.

In the wetter parts of the Netherlands this is winterwork, when the marches are frozen. Only then one can walk there to get the work done.
