Presumably some poor devil would have had to climb the foremast clutching the tree, which he would then have had to make fast at the top. I am mightily relieved that it was not me!

well I guess that dates the photo accurately and would explain the Christmas tree as it is pre-12th night. I had not actually noticed that before.

and Cornelia.....you don't have to look at them.

Thank you for posting this nice picture. Very early one of FEIV. I have great interest in the FE ships. Christmas tree still visible in the foremast. The FEIV was only in Southampton for berthing trails on 04.01.1970, so this must be the actual picture date. She never sailed from Southampton in het career. brds, Adrian

Many thanks for posting as I was not aware that the FE IV had ever called at the port of Southampton, being an enthusiast of the ex ferrys from Southampton pictures like this are always a pleasure to look as our most of your excellent collection of pictures so once again many thanks for posting!
