Quite Right Arjan,The two Yellow Hydraulic arms open and close her,In this shot She was moving out of the Channel too let an Outbound ship through, so because she had no freeboard the slops were trailing after her,She was Heading out too her Dumping Ground after this Manouver as can be seen in the accompanying Stern Shot.

Also note the V shaped opening in the railing at the bow. This is an indication of the maximum opening angle.

No this ship is built in two articualing halves. The hinges are on deck level. When you want to discharge, underwater hydraulic cylinders will allow the bottom to open and the load falls out. Usuall the dredge pump is used to flush out any remaining silt

It appears that the method to discharge the load is to ballast the vessel down and let it run off as you go. Can I assume the engine intake is forward of the discharge?
