The first of two ships, Rangitane being her sister and built for the UK-NZ service, replacing the Ruahine of 1909 and Rimutaka of

1923.

1965 mainmast removed

14/6/1969 sailed from Auckland on final NZS passenger sailing from NZ

1969 to CY Tung and renamed Oriental Carnaval.

7/3/1975 laid up at Hong Kong then sold to breakers arriving at Kaohsiung 27/2/1976.
