What a beautiful photo. Looked like January 28 was a beautiful day in the Netherlands!

A lovely looking vessel.

If every officer on watch kept awake, a good look out and obeyed the COLREGS then it doesn't matter what shape of bow a vessel has .......

Cheers, Dan.

That's interesting. But then why no ship has a rubber 'bumper' at the bow in case of collision? :D If only tugs have sorta that.

Just saying.//If the marine industry applied the same standards as the automotive or aviation industry...They would learn from previous incidents...In the Andrea Doria sinking It was a factor that the Stockholms blunt bow was a factor...If there was a forward flared bow...This would cause damage above the waterline and would act to absorb the force of impact..In the same way crumple zones do in a car...This would lessen the impact below the waterline...And hopefully not result in a sinking..What year was Andrea Doria???? And why aren't the lessons applied FULLY.
If you applied the same saftey standards in aviation as to marine industry...You'd never have Ro/Ro ferries for example..The authorites simply wouldn't allow it....But the marine industry...As long as it saves the bottom line anything goes.

When you look at this bow and then to the bows of the first container ships build in the US during the 60.s,,I don,t see much difference unless under water ?

Denis
I heard that too,,so it might be true ?

There are rumors that she has a underwater trident at the bow.

With this design of blunt bow..Won't that be more dangerous in a collision?? With a flared bow..The contact would occur above the waterline..But not in this case. Wasn't this a factor in the collision between Andrea Doria and Stockholm.???
