Permanently moored in New York is the 1957 built Forrest Sherman class destroyer, USS EDSON.This was the first class of American destroyers to built after WW2 and the unmodified examples were armed with 3x5" guns and 6x12" torpedo tubes.Photo Aug 1997.

At that time, EDSON was part in the Intrpid Sea-Air Space Museum complex at New York City. She had be decommissioned in 1988 and was donated to the Intrepid Museum in 1989. She certainly could not be visiting New York at the time.

As the photo was taken in New York how could she not be, to be pedantic, visiting New York!

Yes, I guess you could say she was a longtime resident of the port open to visitors.
I heard she may be towed to Milwaukee WI to become a permanent visitor there.
