So if the floating dock is placed 50 mtrs OUTSIDE the breakwater is is affected by extreme weather such as high winds and rough seas, so is her stability and that of the vessel on her working deck somehow affected?

:-) The basic shipyard facilities of VLS are placed in the Bay of Martinscica (at east exit of Rijeka city) and these premises are protected with a breakwater.
The floating drydock Dock 11 is placed 50 meters outside the breakwater of VLS and therefore the undocked ship is directly on the *roads* of Rijeka ready for departure towards the next commercial port.

PS: After accomplished undocking yesterday, RDJ immediately continued to her south destinations.

Jadran, where is the floating dock operating. from the pic it looks as she is situated not in a harbour but in some bay, am I right?

From the other similar photo that was shot by Dragec it can be seen that RIO DE JANEIRO was drydocked on Febr 08, 2013 and now it can be seen that she was undocked on Febr 15, 2013.
RDJ spent a total of only 8 days in drydock and upon undocking directly departed from VLS premises.

Hi Emmanuel,
In the Suezmax size drydock that is registered as Dock 11, shipyard Viktor Lenac can normally drydock ships of 274-278 meters length.
With its length of 286 meters the ship RDJ is a little bit oversized for certain repair works.
Your statement is correct, that the pontoons are used forward and aft of the drydock for assistance during repair works on the ship's far ends, but it must be considered that the propeller, rudder blade & rudder stock are very heavy pieces indeed.
Fortunately, during this drydocking the ship RDJ did not have works on dismantling/refitting the propeller and/or rudder blade.

It is very interesting the way the stern potrudes way out of the floating dock, it must be a bit promblematic to affect repairs on her propellor and rudder the way they hang out of the floating dock.Barges must be the answer.
