Description:

Built at Bay City Michigan,by F W Wheeler Co,in 1897,as a bulk carrier,later shortened,and converted to a self unloading sand dredge. Retired from service in 1982,and later sold for scraping at Humberstone,Ont,as shown in the picture,Nov,1985. In front of her is the remains of the E G GRACE (5095505) built 1943,last opperated 1976, and behind her is the tanker HUDSON TRANSPORT (5156488) wich was destroyed by fire 12/25/81 7 lives lost. later rebuilt as the barge SCURRY,then later REMI,in 1992,and sold for offlakes use. The NIAGARA was given a reprive when taken to the city of Erie,Pa as a museum,but it failed, and she was scrapped there around 2004.Photo taken,Nov,1985.
