Description:

The Argentine general cargo liner LAGO LACAR, outbound Hamburg on 17 september 1983. She was one of a class of six, built in 1962. Take out of service by ELMA in 1985, she spent her last years as a sea pilot station off Montevideo until scrapped in 1994.

Beautiful Ship. I was onbord this ship, in sept. 1984 with 5 horses from Buenos Aires to Hamburg, The most beautiful tour I have ever made, an awesome crew. I will never forget.

Sister ships were "Lago Traful", "Rio Corrientes", "Rio Colorado", "Rio Carcaraña" and "Lago Nahuel Huapi".
"Rio Carcaraña" was damaged by british fire and lost during the South Atlantic conflict of 1982.
"Rio Corrientes was the training ship of the Merchant Marine School and so was the "Lago Nahuel Huapi" which is very special to me because while being a deck cadet, I crossed the Atlantic on her, for my very first time 33 years ago.
