Yes Clive I look forward that maybe in the future we see more colour instead of the clinical white,variety is the spice of life.

Emmanuel, we live in times of extremes: the bland plain white, or the garishly over-stated decorations on the hulls of the Norwegian Cruise Line ships. Yes, there are those ships with the dark blue hulls but even that is now somewhat predictable. How nice it would be to see the Holland America ships with grey hulls with a gold band, though I doubt P&O would accept painting the hulls of their ships in Orient Line corn - pity. The Fred Olsen ships would look handsome with pale grey hulls and yellow funnels as in the past. This is not because of a yearning for the past but simply because these liveries looked better.

Yes Clive, I agree with all your views, it is a pity that economics plays such a big role.Nowadays white is the more prominent colour for cruise liners, sometimes seeing them moored in harbour they seem like a white goods display in a showroom, but with a bit of colour even the most mediocre one would stand out from the herd.

As you will see from other pictures, when sailing for Royal Viking Line this ship and her two sisters had a broad dark blue band along their hulls. When Fred Olsen first had the Black Watch they continued with the band around the hull but it was in pale grey. It looked very smart. At some point they did away with this, painting the ship all white. I agree, the hull stripe would look good but I think the word is 'economics'.
This is why Albatros looks so much nicer than the Fred Olsen pair, she retains the band around her hull.

She has survived these 40 years in this colour so let her end her days sailing in these colours, may she sail for at least half those 40 years.I hate to see a clssic ship like her going to the breakers, hope she at least be converted to something like a floating museum or hotel or whatever as long as she stays afloat.

Well Emmanuel;
1) I think that a stripe (even in red colour) would be something rather standard i.e. the solution with the painted stripe around the ship is seen many-many times.
2) You are right, if a "duck tail" would have been necessary to be fitted at her stern, that would be something utterly UGLY & would spoil the entire graceful looks of this ship.

Instead of painting her whole hull, I think a stripe around her hull in red might make a difference or haw about her hull in some pastel green...that would make a differnce for sure. But saying all this she is still a good looker from whatever angle you look at her.Thank God they didn't add that sort of apron or whatever you call it around her stern at her waterline.

I completely agree with Mr.Dot; however it is my vision, if her hull was painted in dark blue (or even better in dark red-bordeaux colour !??) up to her bow bulwark bottom level ... maybe this ship would achieve even more elegance in its superb look !
In any way you take it she's a *classic beauty*/rgds jadran

Yes Mr.Dot, a truly classic Finish built liner and managed and owned by a another classic shipping company :Fred Olsen.40years of sailing and still looking young, I dont know if 40 years from now any of the "floating apartments blocks" will be still sailing the high seas.I have not heard that she is going to retired or sold, so the old girl has still got life in her, long may she sail, it is always wonderful to see her berthed in our harbour.

Splendid classic liner in a grand setting, and no clutter on her hull! mrdot.
