I think she must have carried out 3rd Special Survey at COSCO with repairs and coatings in 4.2012. Anchor may be ashore for gauging the chain cables...or lost

Thanks Phil for the additional info.
I like to ponder just how much (oil, coal or even nuclear produced) energy, time and accumulated costs went into the supply chain & building of any vessel; not least one as large as this.
Plus the additional energy & costs that goes into deconstruction and recycling.
The figures are mind boggling; but then I suppose the finances of such, must still make it worthwhile for early demolition.... although I still cannot quite believe it!

Hi Rick & Vitaly. She was on a long term TC which came to an end in October 2012. She was uneconomical and not high-demand, although she may have generated interest from Chinese buyers. Second-hand she'd be worth only just above scrap value anyway and MOL's policy is to sell for scrap rather than for trading - they don't want to keep old ships in the market.

Hello Yvon!! I arrived here at this photo from 'your' photo on Marine Marchande:- http://www.marine-marchande.net/Petits_Reportages/Perchoc/Alang-2013/0-Alang.htm - having seen the small image of the ship "Mellow Wind"... I too am amazed that she was scrapped so soon. It was not only the painting that was done in the expensive drydock - as I am sure you know already - but undoubtedly the engine room, deck & hatch cover maintenance too. The economics must clearly have made it preferable to demolish her, than operate her. Crazy world we live in!
Regards, Rick

Do you have any idea why this vsl was scrapped? 15 years is not too old for bulk carrier.
