Seen in the St Lawrence River,in tow of the tugs SALVAGE MONARCH,and HELEN M Mc ALLISTER, bound for Quebec City, where she will be mated to the steamer ROBERT S Mc NAMARA (5297892)for the long tow overseas to the scrapyard at Santander,Spain. The tow departed Dec 4, 1973, but ,on Dec,16, the BUCKEYE MONITOR developed a crack in her deck amidships, wich extended down her sides to below the waterline, and she sank in the early morning. The McNAMARA, completed the voyage to the breakers,arriving Jan,11,1974. The BUCKEYE MONITOR had sailed through Nov,1973, before laying up for the last time.
