Had the pleasure of cruising with her in her final year for Phoenix Reisen as Maxim Gorkiy. The interior was still "as built". Did like that much better than the present day screamy coloured and glittering on those "floating appartment buildings".

You did a good job, she had a long career, saw her at Auckland NZ in 70's under Communist flag, USSR.

Hi Chris,
a foto of her early days. Spent 3 month in 1968 on her as mecanic apprentice at Deutsche Werft. First job was drilling holes for the big stb. gearbox (De Schelde make)foundation bolts. Must have been more then 100 holes. Many of them we drilled from the lower side of the foundation frames. Up side down. Not a funny position handling a heavy airdriven drill! Later we fitted leakage trays under the boiler front. All long ago but still quite bright in my memories.
Regards Jürgen

That really is a rather grand portrait of her! She was renamed HANSEATIC less than a month later, on 25 September 1973: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TS_Maxim_Gorkiy
