Exactly, Clive, it the shape of the hull and the angle I used to photograph the ship leaving drydock, a difficult task as light was about to fade and with all closed spaces in today's port areas, I had to climb to the flying bridge of a tug berthed nearby...

I have seen a profile photo of the ship (taken by this same photographer) and the white line is in fact straight, or at least as straight as the curving shape of a ship's hull will allow.

It's a shame the white line isn't straight...

How foolish of me!! Of all the companies to have left off my list that carried this same livery, the most obvious one of them all - Empresa Insulana de Navegacao. The original owners of the Funchal and very obviously where the new owners have looked back to for inspiration for the 'new' livery for the revitalised fleet.

Your assumption is correct Clive ... black hull, bright red boot topping & narrow white line and that's it,, amongst all the others, Cunard came first to my mind & Cunard remains a Brand present on the market still today !

Jadran, I've wondered why you were making a reference to Cunard but I assume that you are looking at the black hull, red boot topping and the narrow white line. Then again that is a look that was hardly exclusive to Cunard. The New Zealand Shipping Co, North German Lloyd, French Line, Eastern & Australian Steamship Co and the United States Lines - and probably several others - all carried the same hull colours.
