Description:

AUSTRAL SALVOR entering Newcastle NSW from Madang P-NG with (IMO 9293545) ASPHALT CARRIER. The casualty, fully laden with warm product from Kaohsiung for Newcastle, suffered an engine failure in the Bismark Sea and was towed into Sek Harbour, Madang. Engine repairs were unsuccessful and a decision made to run for Newcastle before the heaters broke down. AUSTRAL SALVOR, on station at Abbot Point Qld, bunkered at Cairns before connecting up to the casualty for the c1976nm run to Newcastle.
