So after 20 years of sailing and 11 name changes she is finally to succumb to the cutters flame. It is always a sad occasion when a ship ends her life thus or even more tragically when she is sunk in an accident.

Even some minor hull damage can affect statutory certificates (Safety Equipment, Safety Construction, Load Lines), and it is by default that Class is always affected. Sometimes damages which do not involve other vessels go unreported, but some obvious and visible damage can create problems for the vessel with the Port State control...Procedure to deal with damage is fairly common, survey to determine the extent, and agreement on some temporary repairs. Or, in some circumstances, even vessels with breached hulls can be allowed to proceed to the next port to carry the repairs there...

Durres, Mar 21 2013-- Fully cellular containership Lady Elisabeth, which sustained damage to its aftpart caused by contact with passenger ro/ro AF Michela, sailed from Durres late in the evening of Mar 19. It carried out very provisional repairs and, after an inspection on board by Germanischer Lloyd class inspector, permission for it to sail was given. Permanent repairs will be carried out in another shipyard.
