Description:

The 141-years old 'SS Kyles' was a coastal cargo ship built by John Fullarton Co Ltd at their Merksworth Yard in Paisley in 1872. She was first utilised as a tender to the Clyde fishing fleet. By 1921 , she went under conversion to a Sand Dredger for use in the Bristol Channel , her propulsion converted from steam to diesel operation. After a very long working life , she joined the Scottish Maritime Museum Core Collection in the early 1980's. Between 1996 and 1999 she was fully restored to what we see today. She can be seen in Irvine Harbour in Ayrshire Scotland.
