Description:
The 57-year old tug 'Garnock' was built in 1956 by George Brown & Co Ltd at Garvel Shipyard in Greenock for ICI (Nobel) for use at Irvine in Ayrshire to assist ships which went into the Garnock Wharf , which served the Ardeer Explosives Works. Another job she was involved in was the dumping of faulty explosives at sea and it was on one of those voyages in 1984 that she nearly had her stern blown off and later deemed as a 'constructive loss'. She is seen in her home port but will never put to sea again as the cost of a full modern repair is so prohibitive. She was taken over by the Scottish Maritime Museum.
