@Ozzy
when that is so with the economy,,why then Maersk changes the engines on those "B-Class" ? the ones which were laid up in Scotland, or did I get that one wrong ?

@ Denis and Ozzy
You boys should re-read :-), I never stated that it is better. I only try to explain why that boxer looks so much bigger.

Ted, I now only wonder: why the best for a tanker to live some more years is a conversion to HLV or FPSO. Why I don't see any tanker been converted to a container ship?

@ Ted..You are forgetting about the Econoships operated by US Lines..They were TOO slow and forced the company into bankruptcy.They were big boxboats in their day 1885 (ish) Panamax ships. They were also built in a recession..My guess is that If the World trade picks up..Maersk having 2 x engines will be able to crank a few more knots out of these. So they won't be left high and dry.

One has to look at the type of the vessel It has to do with the way the construction is done on a tanker/bulker and boxer. I am now on a vessel which is 172x27 m and the the Summer- TDW is 31500,, I was on boxers 207x30m and they had barely 6-7000 tdw more. But they had
8000 GT more. Tanker are virtual rounded barges, boxer are a kind of "stretched" forms in order to make speed. Actual what MAERSK and other should build since speed is not more the most important is like tankers/bulker form wise. The way it is builded now is not the optimum for container capacity but a compromise. If Maersk would have said,,ok 15 kn is enough,,then they would have builded the Tri[ple-E class more as square boxes and then they would now be able to carry easy another 5-10000 TEU on the same size ship !!!

The Mary Maersk makes the Eagle Verona look like no more than a big bunker barge !

All of them will remain as "ships on pictures" for me - the largest ship I saw by own eyes was like 165m in length, lol.

There has not to be height difference between these two ships that Triple-E Class max height 73 meters and we can sea board height of VLCCs which higher than Triple-E Class that at least max hegiht of VLCCs must be 60 meters according to my calculation. If there is someone could figure out this shot please explain here. I m really amazed now ... I remember Batillus Class ULLCs max height 74.50 meters that they had 36 meters board height ...

Wow, and I also thought that the Maersk vessel is significantly wider...

This is an amazing photo lappino. The dimensions of the tanker are 333 x 60m, the Triple E 399 x 59, The difference in length is apparent, but despite the angle and perspective I could swear that the box boat looks to have a much wider beam than the tanker - it simply dwarfs it. Amazing.
