Thanks Heizer!
Just a final comment to the foto: Small ship - big ocean....
and the rubber dinghy without outboarder. The harder you row - the faster you go.
Have a nice sunday!
Jürgen

Hi Jürgen,
"Meerkatze" (Bau-Nr. 597) is a sister of "Gauss".
Here a short bio:
1943, July 7th: Launching date as water tanker for the Kriegsmarine, base Pillau, East Prussia. Delivery was not possible after Rhine was controlled by Allies.
1947, November 12th: Bought by Hapag. Conversion to passenger ship (for Helgoland service) planned, but was not realized.
1949, December: Sold to the German government, towed to Cuxhaven and converted to a fishery protection vessel by Beckmann.
1950, May: Activated for duty.

Hi Heizer,
according to the book "Orkan in Höhe Bäreninsel" she has been built as a watertanker in Mannheim during the war. Towed to Cuxhaven for rebuilding at Beckmann. Don´t know if I or the book is wrong? It says that "Gauss" was one of her sisters.
