Vessel loaded salt in Cedros Island, Baha California, Mexico, for chemical plants in USA and Canada. Ports were Vancouver, Tacoma (two berths), Portland, & Long Beach. Usually two berths per trip with first discharge in Vancouver or Long Beach as other berths could not take vessel fully loaded. Another self- discharging vessel, the Kure, ran from Cedros to Japan. Both vessels had been built using machinery from scrapped US Navy vessels.

Built to carry salt from Central America (Cedros Island?) to Japan and managed for Ludwig by the once well-known Newcastle company Hunting & Son.
