The ADVENTURE HORNBLOWER was originally built in 1994 by Washburn and Doughty at East Boothbay Maine (Their hull number 44) as the EMERALD EMPRESS (ON 999192). She was built for the Newman Boat Line of Sandusky, Ohio on Lake Erie. Eventually proven to be too big for that service, she traveled to the West Coast in 2000 and became ADVENTURE HORNBLOWER for Hornblower Marine, working as tour, dinner, and seasonal whale-watch boat out of San Diego. When Hornblower won the contract for the Statue of Liberty cruises in New York, she was selected to return back through the Panama Canal to the East Coast, but in the end they found other vessels, so she remains well-utilized at San Diego. She's 150 feet long, and 94 registered tons, so not qualifying for an IMO number, although her international gross tonnage has been measured at 686.
