As the "Sea Duke", she was beneficially owned by P. & P. Shipping Co. (Hellas) S.A. (Messrs. Nikolaos Papazoglou and Athanasios Panoupoulos - hence P. & P.)

Built for ELMA (Argentine Lines).She was part of a series of eight sister ships, four built in the UK and four built in Argentina. They were a bit different compared with the common SD 14s. They were ordered with an extra deck added to the accomodation and their aft hold was designed for carrying reefer cargoes.
