This vessel belongs to the Argos class, comprising 5 similar vessels. It was the last of a series of 3 built directly by the Navy shipyards at Alfeite (Lisbon). Other vessels in the class (from P1153 onwards) were built in partnership by CONAFI - Construção Naval de Fibras Lda, a private shipyard located at Vila Real de Santo António (Algarve, Southern Portugal).
