AGIOS IOANNIS was very heavily damaged by explosion and ensuing fire while discharging at Europoort 24.06.1981 following arrival from Port Cartier, Quebec, Canada. Six repair workers on board the ship were killed. One of the port side hatch pontoons was blown onto the bridge structure. She was berthed for examination 09.07.1981 and thereafter sold to Spanish breakers and left Rotterdam 28.09.1981 in tow. AGIOS IOANNIS arrived at Barcelona 11.10.1981.
