Yes Mr Chow, I'm well aware of why a ship's funnel is placed in a certain position. In this instance the designers/naval architects (in my opinion) should have designed the funnel and the structure at the base of it in such a way as to lessen the feel that it is so very far aft. It is all a very bulky and angular structure, which means there is a great deal of visual weight all at the aft end of the ship and this is in no way balanced by anything at the forward end, the mast and the housing below it is particularly weak.

Edit

person
The position of the funnel ( for most ships ) is pending on the location of the engine room onboard the ship.

Interesting and specific examples Clive, you were very clear.i would alsoadd the too short bow.In this "style" of 80's vessels design, i believe Louis Olympia and Prinsendam are more attractive.

Roy, I totally agree with you: the funnel is jut too far aft, the funnel and the structure that houses the lounge around its base are all too angular, the whole stern section is too angular, her boats should have been grouped together rather than spaced along her superstructure (which I always thought added to her 'fragile' look). All of that said, I think that Phoenix Reisen have done a great job with her and that she looks better now than she ever did when with Princess or P&O.

Still not one of the best looking ships of her era mr dot!

Not the 'bells and whistle' of the present royal princess, but certainly more shipshape lines! mrdot.
