One other thing Gordy,
I wouldn't mind betting the little vessel you can just see berthed astern of the Canopic, is a Richardson coaster, "Parera" or "Pukeko" they always parked ther.

You are right Tony, Auckland not Wellington, at first glance I thought Canopic was berthed at Glasgow Wharf. At least I got the country right!
I think Derek is correct with Eastern Star.

Hi Tony

After blowing up the photo Eastern Star I think can be clearly read off the bow.

Hi Athenic, if not Shaw Savill maybe a Bank boat? they had similar funnels.
This photo was taken in Auckland about the 1960's I reckon. The port was a good place to be for a young seaman, very busy and vibrant with plenty of jobs to be had.
Regards Tony

The ship on the other side from Canopic is "Eastern Star" Built 1951 by Harland and Wolff she was broken up in 1969 after fire damage

Do you mean the Blue star vessel?...it could be one of a few that ran down to kiwi a lot, I know the Dunedin star and others were regular visitors, maybe one of the experts on Blues star can recognize if from the upper areas, mast/Samson post positioning etc. If I was going to hazard a guess, I would say the Dunedin Star.

Tony, the ship on the other side of the shed is not owned by Shaw Savill.Does anyone know what it is?
Wellington was busy that day.
Another wonderful picture Gordy. Thank you.

This is a classic Gordy,
Shaw Savill, NZ Shipping, Blue Star, a couple of old Union Company 'slow greens' tied up at the end of Bledisloe and Kings wharves, and there in the top right hand corner is the old "Viti", she seamed to be laid up there forever, walked past her many times.
Thanks for the memories Gordy.
