@MJ & seanav, there is a small but destinct difference

beaching is usually meant intentionally, either for scrapping or save the ship from sinking after a collision for example
grounding is usually not wanted or planned!!!

CMA CGM ALGER Grounding occurred in August 2006 and certainly not in August 2002! Here is the first report in the Lloyd's Casualty Week of August 18, 2006
'CMA CGM ALGER container ATG GL 6,409 8,350 built 2002
Grounded at Serifos Island Aug 4. Tug Matsas Star on scene Aug 5, LOF 2000 signed to Matsas Salvage. Refloating preparations under way. Still aground Aug 10.'
Many reports followed until November 2006.

This was the first time she tried to shift very large lumps of 'Mother Earth' ... the next time as 'Celina' IMO 9235373 in 2012 she ripped her hull open when she ran aground in Norway and became a CTL. She was scrapped once salvaged.
