At this salvage operation i was in that small tugboat called AMAZON which in the photo is pushing on the starboard side of the ship. The salvage operation lasted 17 days.We transfered the gas oil to a big barge to prevend any pollution and then we loaded the containers of number 1 and 2 cargo hold in two other barges which came from pireaus with another tugboat. After reloading a big salvage tug named MATSAS STAR same company as AMAZON made fast astern with wired link and after some hours the ship refloated. Then we load the containers back to ship and the barge gave back the gas oil to the ship.Next day the CMA CGM ALGER together with MATSAS STAR headed to piraeus where unload to terminal there

Jadran hi this is my favorite island you should see the beaches probably this is what magnified the officer in command,. TLPlanner hi actually the beach is relatively deep 25 mts from the shaw and the bottom is sand however
there is a a smooth rock of 5mtrs by say 11mtrs at ten meters away from the shore I think that that one gave final take off,.I arrived there the next day , tks stelios

... and suddenly an island appeared just ahead out of the water !! :-)
To achieve such a trim after grounding she must have been on full ahead when running aground!
Does anybody know what really happened ?

Just curious, any idea which floating crane from Singapore went over ? Was it Asian Hercules 2 ?

Depends if there is a large enough vessel capable of taking the containers and whether she can safely get alongside, whether the ships cranes are operable and a host of other problems. Here in NZ two years ago we had a very big containership ..the MSC Rena run aground on a reef outside Tauranga harbour ... they had to wait for a suitabe crane to come from Singapore!!

It is not always esay ... this ship was salvaged only to run aground in Norway and this time was again salvaged but taken to the scrapyard ... an Unhappy ship.

One curious question here. When such occurrence happen, do they have the practice of transferring the loaded containers away from the casualty ship at the soonest possible time ? Who knows, this may help in re-floating the vessel ?
