Hi MattyBoy and Captain Ted. Yes, as Captain Ted explained, normally old, totally neglected and unused general cargo piers, were ships with legal problems, seized, arrested, problems with the crew-owner-management-unions, waiting orders, or doing repairs, etc...,are moored-docked, for lets say, long periods. Usually not in the port main docking and operations area ( but in the middle of nowhere...). In my trampship life, 4 times they sent us to forgotten piers. jejeje..

Hi ventuari
I am 3-5 times ayear on the missy, usually grains to central and south America. Not unusual for us to be 2-3 weeks on the river. I had already only 5 days with in and out,,but 7 days plus is the norm there

Hi Captain Ted. As an old Captain, for me, 95% of all the ships are glamorous...jajaja. I remember very well the Mississippi River, had been there lot of times in General Cargo ships and Container vessels. Most...in New Orleans area. One time, early 80s we were more than 2 months at the "forgotten piers" watching "tons and tons" of barges-tugs, bulkers, tankers, up and down 24 hours a day.
So Bulkers are glamorous too at least for me...jejeje

Hi Ventuari
bulkers are usually not so glamorous,,but now and then the weather plays along and quite good ones between. Of cours on the Mississippi river,, the majority are bulkers ,tankers or inland tug boats
