Yes Auckland, it would be Stanley Point in the background and you can just see part of the old ferry landings on the right.

Not certain but I reckon that Union Company vessel ahead of the Oronsay could be the "Kaimanawa"? given those Samson posts down aft

Love this type of photo Gordy, cars and all!!
It looks to me more like Auckland than Wellington with the Oronsay berthed at Princess wharf, and the Stanley Bay cliffs on the other side.
