Hi Marcel & Ruud
The deleted photograph you refer to did not show the rope ladder and cradle above a window, this I understand was the damaged window and not those with what appears to tape around them.

Ken

I see from today's press that the ship has been repaired & has departed on it's current cruise.(Norway-Northern Lights)As per schedule.
Therein lies the heart of the matter.

When I started as a young officer on the bridge in 1970 one of the first I learned from my elderly and fully experienced captain was to slow down the ship's speed in bad weather.

Excellent Captain Ted and David Meare ..... I totally agree with both your comments. In any condition there will be a 'prevailing significant wave height' be it in a force 3 or storm force 10. They are not Freaks or Rogues they are there so beware ...ease back on the levers and they wont bother you so much. Love your description David ... very true.

I seem to recall that 50 years ago, the harder you kept your foot on the gas in storm conditions, the more 'freak' waves you'd see.

BBC news piece on the incident. Including a video of the conditions.

Good "info" shot Ken,, but honestly I don,t believe in the FREAK-WAVE theory,,more in unusual bad seas where the ship should not have been. Too much accidents are nowadays explained by socalled freak-waves. A real freak wave and they would have real damage, like you see sometimes on S-African E coast.
