Hi Denis, yes the engine was her destiny or else she had probably done it a little longer, but unfortunately it was over here.

Best Regards
Bendt

Very unfortunate to see her uploaded by you! :D I mean, another classic freighter's time is up, especially for one of these unique Norwegian palletters!

Denis

Hello Lukka, it was nice to hear from an old crew member it is always sad to see one's workplace disappear, but now you know at least where it disappeared to.

Thank you for your comments about the series.

Nice to see her. This was my first ship back in 1981. Now she is singing her last song, well, that`s life but sad :-(

The owner, together with the insurance-company decided to sell the "Nordvik" to scrapping. The engine was so damaged during the engineblackout last week, so scrapping was the answered.
"Karmsund" will replace the vessel.

And then I think about Hurtigruten.

What a wonderful attitude they have to keeping old ships, nostalgia and every aspect of things up to speed.

Before I die, I want to experience a cruise in the Fjords of Norway on a Hurtigruten owned ship. Bliss.

Thanks for the link Tomas.

I also understand that Maersk needed to strip EMMA down and find out what went wrong as she was a new build.

Still sad though.

Thank You for this series Bendt.
Fine photos of a good looking workhorse.
During PSC inspections she had her deficiencies but was never detained under Paris MOU.
Best regards, Jan

Here are some reasons:
http://www.norlines.no
They are building two brand new vessels powered by LNG, and the time has sailed from these vessels, cost-efficiance and space arent on their side compared with the new ones. I agree its a very sad thing, my favoritevessel of all times, the "tore hund" was sent to the breakers some months ago. But money is the key thing, not the love of us old ship-lovers.

These kind of photo's upset me. You guys remember Emma Maersk and the drama of water entering her massive engine room, then the dismantling of her engine etc, etc.

Here we have a well maintained 30yr old whose relatively small engine packed up....now they throw the whole ship away....

Surely it would not cost that much to fix her??

Or maybe, she has made enough money for the owners. So they just toss her? Why did they even bother to keep her looking so good for 30yrs?

Bugs me.

Yes, unfortunately, the engine could no more and that's the end of a 30 year old ship even though she is nice and well maintained.

Thanks for your comments Steffen.
