This L6-S-B1 design "Maritimer" class bulk freighter was built by Great Lakes Engineering Works, River Rouge (Detroit), MI and launched as the Adirondack in 1943. Was given the name Richard J Reiss shortly after delivery to her new owner. The Reiss was converted to a self unloader in 1964 and repowered with a diesel engine in 1976. Name change to Richard Reiss in 1986 when she was chartered to Erie Sand. Presently sails for Grand River Navigation as the Manistee.
