Description:

F/B LEFKA ORI - Igoumenitsa - 06/2011

LEFKA ORI approaching the port of Igoumenitsa, after a night crossing from Venice; photo taken from IKARUS PALACE in the early morning, just minutes before sunrise.

These were the times when the crossings between Venice and Greece were still carried out by "real ferries". Just wish, we could turn back time here. ;)

Anyone of our greek experts here knows about the plans for the future of LEFKA ORI and her sister SOPHOCLES V ??Currently the sisters lay up in Perama after the unfortunate charter to JEJU CRUISE LINES in 2013.
I heard rumours they could be refitted and
a) doing the Piraeus-Heraklion-route for ANEK/SUPERFAST
b) be chartered abroad again.
c) be employed on Ancona-Igoumenitsa-Patras for ANEK/SUPERFAST
d) return for Venice-Igoumenitsa(-Corfu)-Patras for ANEK

@florian

I have a friend that works in http://www.monacochannel.mc/Le-Directticketing @Go In Sardinia, and has been sending out pictures of the Lato for two months now on social networks.
He was worried Sophocles does not allow "on board camping" for which he sold tockets already.
My reply was that Sophocles is probably a better ship (many venice-patra travel in my past).
How bad can Sophocles be inside, given it was not really used in Busan?

@ Mbarsot:
What I heard of:
Originally the italian company GO IN SARDINIA chartered the ferry "LATO" of ANEK LINES for the summer months. The ferry should have been employed between Livorno and Arbatax/Olbia (Sardinia). She was already repainted for the her new company. (http://www.ellinikiaktoploia.net/photos/main.php?g2_itemId=69258)
Unfortunately the 40 years old ship suffered a serious crankshaft failure just after returning from the shipyard at Syros island.
Therefore she (probably) can not be chartered abroad any further, as it was planned.
For the moment GO IN SARDINIA is obviously looking for a suitable replacement.

Rumours:

a) They might charter ANEKs "KRITI I" which is unemployed for the moment, anyway.

b) They might charter ANEKs "SOPHOCLES V." But to be honest, I doubt whether she is in an appropriate condition for a charter at this moment (respectively in juin). Just to remember: she [and her sister] was laying up in Busan for more than one year and also in Perama/Piraeus for quite a time. She is said to be in a very sad condition (refering to exterior and also interior). I admit, that I don´t know if any work has already been done. However I dont´t think we will see (even one of) the sisters travelling this year anymore.

It would be interesting to know, what are the sources for your below information ??
Anyway thank you very much for that.

@ all: Any further update is highly appreciated.

Kind regards...

It seems sister ship Sophocles will come to italy for two months as a lease (juin and july). They will have to repaint it, so maybe it will then be deployed in a greek route (I hope for the Venice-patra of course)

@Tomas: You think she has a strange shape ?? I personally like her a lot. ;) However thank you for your kind words !!
It´s always interesting to hear different opinions.

@John: Thanks, let´s hope to see both in service again soon, hopefully in Greece ;)

Lovely shot. I love everything about this vessel, especially that unusual shape funnel she possesses.
