She was one of the fastest containerships of the third generation: The most striking detail of the ship was her propulsion system, which was composed of three B & W diesel-engines arranged on the starboard side, amidships and port side. All three engines similar in construction were built by the shipyard under license from the Danish manufacturer Burmeister & Wain two-stroke diesel with 84 centimeters diameter and 180 centimeters cylinder stroke. The two side engines of the type B & W 9K84EF had nine per cylinder, and 23,500 horsepower and drove directly depending a fixed propeller. The central engine of the type B & W 12K84EF had twelve cylinders, a capacity of 28,000 hp and gave this power away to a controllable propeller. The total power of around 80,000 horsepower brought the ship to a test drive speed of over 31 knots. The electrical supply of the vessel consisted of five diesel generators with outputs 1700-980 kilowatts. Unbelievable in current times: She had only a capacity of 1.842 TEU with connections for 150 reefer-containers. Sister of her are well known names of that TRIO-era: TOYAMA, SELANDIA, NIHON. Similar good memories as Ron. Regards Peter
