Later became the City of Cape Town, was a passenger aboard her for a return voyage to South Africa in 2004, heard she had been called Barcelona but this is the first photo i've seen of her bearing this name thanks for posting.

The ship was built for the ZAF trades but there was over tonnage on the service so in 1979, she was chartered out to Zim I believe for two years. Sistership of CITY OF DURBAN and near sister (same hulls design) to NEDLLOYD HOORN, HOUTMAN, ORTELIUS, TRANSVAAL and the 4 big Whites.
Notice that her funnel had also been shortened up in 1979 from her original design.

Just noticed as well..The ship directly underneath this one is the Elbe Maru, under the category..Same kind of thing same kind of era..but built in Japan.They almost look like sister ships they are quite similar. It's in good company your fine photo.

Nice photo..What is the story behind this one..It was Table bay and then becomes Barcelona after only a few years???
Who was it sailing for under the Barcelona name???
