In those days is was much more simple to build a completely box-like superstructure (see: NO SHORE cranes on the workberth !! ).
And if I recall well,, her capacity was somewhat less than 3,000 cars; if I'm not mistaken from my today point of memory).

And if they wanted to have a fine capacity - why they didn't use the valuable space above the forecastle?
