Description:

The Brazilian aircraft carrier NAe "São Paulo", ex French "Foch" (R 99), is seen here in the Naval Arsenal AMRJ (Arsenal de Marinha do Rio de Janeiro)on the Ilha das Cobras.
The Brazilian Navy uses varying name prefixes indicating the type of ship. In this case the prefix is "NAe"=Navio-aeródromo, indicating an aircraft carrier. Destroyer names, for example, are prefixed "CT"=Contra-torpedeiro, patrol craft "NP"=Navio-patrulha, training vessels "NE"=Navio-escola, survey ships "NH"=Navio-hidrográfico, buoy tenders "NB"=Navio-balisador, and tankers "NT"=Navio-tanque.
