Scale of economics. New times dictates new designs, that the size is pure greed? I don't know, that argument can go all the way back to "Titanic". I would assume that other shipowners at the time frawned upon White Stars newbuilding. "Its not a ship, it's a factory". Still, people went sailing on her, she was new and sparkly. With all due respect, the CC did not sink because of her looks? Or is it a opinion of getting a maximum number of pax on a ship that is wanted? Got luck in trying to get that thru IMO :-)

But the Ruby Princess still had a forecastle to speak of, while the Royal one has almost none...
I don't mind the looks of the new cruise vessels that much, but the sheer greed to squeeze more cabins into the superstructure that is extended more and more forward...is just too obvious.

@Capt. Ted - I agree with you, the CC incident, while tragic already, has "we have no idea how lucky we were" written all over it.

She is better looking than the grand class cruise ships that were formerly the Princess Cruises flagships!

The "facts", as they relates to beaty...is that not in the eyes of the individual? As far as I know, a lot of people who oppose these "modern cruise" vessels have never set foot on them, nor would they because "they are so darn ugly". I am sure, back in the day,people was also commenting on how ugly "Titanic" looked, compared to the "acceptable terms" of beauty at that time. Just an observation, no bad intensions...

@Sandygates
one might as well also say that "they are so good" comments are tiresome , fact is they don,t look nice anymore and are only build to cater mass transportation on vacation,,if that is good or not is debatable. I for my part dread the day when a big one goes to the fishes. And we were very close with the Costa Concorda, what would have happened if she would not have stuck on the rock,,,1000,s death

After a while, these never-ending, negative comments about modern cruise ships become quite tiresome
