Would imagine that at least a few of the deck tanks will primarily be slop tanks to store tank washings and the like, however they will also have another function as additional cargo tanks, perhaps for smaller parcels.

Wow, very cool & colourful shot, Jens. I'm always wondering about the many exposed deck-tanks on Odfjell tankers. Are they usually loading especially dangerous cargoes which have to be stored apart or is it just to please the spotters eye?
