ARKABA

Australian - Adelaide Steamship Co

Built 1924

4,214 tons, 2,593 net.

Lbd: 341'6" x 47'2" x 30'3". Built by W Beardmore & Co., Dalmuir Glasgow. Cargo vessel launched as Arcoona and renamed when arrived upon the Australian shores. February 1952 stranded on a reef off Port Lincoln South Australia and abandoned to underwriters. 1953 arrived under tow at Hong Kong where she was refitted and sold 1954 to the South Australian flour merchant, William Charlick and renamed William Charlick 1V. She then serviced under the auspices of Charlick's Hong Kong sudsidiary. Scrapped in Hong Kong 1959 (Arkaba- Aboriginal word for 'underground waters')

Extra info
1925 renamed Arkaba, 1952 grounded at Port Lincoln and abandoned to underwriters. Sold to W. Charlick Ltd, Hong Kong, repaired and 1954 renamed William Charlick 4, 1959 scrapped.
