Mumbles: Thank you so much for writing what I've been thinking of in the last couple of years! I totally agree with you, both regarding the comments of these apparently ugly ships and with your view on the modern designs :-) Well spoken my friend ;-)

Great picture by the way - and a very interesting ship too!

Best regards
/Søren

PS. Beauty and/or ugliness will always be in the eye of the beholder, and it is fair to think either one or the other - but can we please stop the generalization?

There is no such thing as an ugly ship... it's just that some are prettier than others!

Ugly as hell in YOUR opinion, becky but very interesting pieces of naval architecture and technology in mine

You are probably right mumbles but it still does not change the plain fact that they are as UGLY AS HELL

Mumbles you are SOOOOO right!! If anyone want to go and complain about ugly ships, please go to dredgers category, here you will find them :) And after all: Ships are not made to look good, but to work good. And just like with humans, there are good looking ones, and bad looking ones, but all are worth same. Please write this behind your ears, and never forget that or - perhaps look in the mirror, you will see where you can categorize yourself then haha :D

These never-ending derogatory remarks about modern cruise ships and their repeated comparison to cattle carriers gets tiresome, naive and amateurish after a bit. Whether you like them or prefer to live in the past, these huge ships fulfil their task of opening up sea cruising to thousands of people who otherwise would never have been able to afford it. Also, they are technically very sophisticated, state-of-the-art pices of machinery, whose workings deserve more enthusing about than the ships' aesthetics warrant the never-ending condemnation they get on this site.

@ Paul & Tom: You want a livestock carrier from Meyerwerft? No problem:

They built what the shipping companies desired. Ugly or not.

To me this monster of a ship looks like a livestock carrier. It is finally supposed to let her operate from Shanghai, China to attract the gambling money from the Chinese.
