Indeed PHa. Of course extend the parallel section asa far forward as possible.
Shame they can't make ferry shoeboxes like some car carriers.
Your link is interesting. Indeed the same feature (and exaggerated by running the fender strip alongside it) - but a rather more interesting design:

(though I see that Flensburger have got in on the brand-awareness)

@ davidship: Not only shipbuilding costs, but function too. Pls see this plan: http://www.fsd-shipdesign.com/index.php?rex_img_type=content_img&rex_img_file=ga-plan_ausschnitt.png

Owner wants cheapest ship = yard designs cheapest ship. The more flat plates the cheaper - and just look at that awful lego superstructure!

Not much IAD here [imagination-aided design]

Only to supplement and clarify in addition:
CAD computer programme is only a "Tool" not a source of the design "Idea" ... "Ideas" are created by Designers and then written in CAD (by the designers) ! :-))
Kind regards (J)

@ Denis: Good question. Answer: CAD = computer-aided design. More in german language pls see: http://www.fsd-shipdesign.com/37-0-Konstruktion.html

I've noticed that on many ships by Flensburger Schiffbau there's a visible sharp edge from which the hull board starts it's bow part.
