Hello Malcolm,
thanks for your infos. I think you´re right, according to Lloyd´s Shipping Index 1976 she was on a voyage from Helsinki when I took the photo.
Kind regards Michael

I meant to add that AL HADA was owned and operated by Orri Navigation of Jeddah. She called at Aqaba on 16th/17th October 1976 en route to Jeddah where she remained, either in port or at anchor, suffering a fire and collision, putting into port again in May 1977 where she remained until towed away for breaking.

Michael, many thanks for posting this most interesting photograph of AL HADA with the letters SSL (Saudi States Line) on her funnel.

In 1976 Saudi-America Line (in Lloyd’s Shipping Index as Saudi States Line) nominally took delivery of AL HADA, the former TANCRED of Wilh. Wilhelmsen, built at Gothenburg in 1948, which had traded as Solstad’s SOL JEAN from 1971. After a troubled few months, mainly spent in Mediterranean or North European waters, AL HADA suffered a fire at Jeddah on 8th December 1976 on a voyage from Helsinki (presumably during the voyage on which you had photographed her).

The burnt out hulk eventually arrived at Castellon in March 1979 to be broken up.

best regards. Malcolm
