9th August, 1942: "Canberra" was hit on starboard side by two japanese torpedos and of 20 Salvos of japanese shipartillery. "Canberra" had 193 casualties. Ship lost power and the suvivors have been evacuated from board the ship and transferred to destroyer "USS PATTERSON" and "USS BLUE". Rear Admiral Richmond Kelly Turner gave order to sink the "CANBERRA". Finally the USS SELFRIDGE fired 363 rounds and four torpedos sending the unable to maneuver "CANBERRA" at 8.00 h of the 9th August 1942 to the ground of the ocean.
