Thanks for your comments Omniron. There is a photo of this ship taken by Pieter Inpyn which is more similar to the vessel I saw with a black hull, but this was before 1964 and my memory may be playing tricks.

Coaster king, she used to berth at Patrick's No.'s 4 & 5 Walsh Bay in Sydney, i attended this vessel all the time and I remember she was always really well maintained and painted up. She was on the intra state coastal run bringing timber down from Coffs Harbour and taking general cargo back which meant she had to lay at the berth waiting for enough cargo to take back so the crew was always painting her ....... altho this was getting towards the end of her time with HCS

It was along time ago in the early sixties but I think this was the ship I saw berthed in Wellington harbour.
It was quite grubby with a black hull and beige super
structer. I remember being facinated by it due to it's
compact size.

I was referring to the photo poster called Mike. The above ship is a well known Australian vessel down these parts. I am sorry if you see it a little different Pete... guess it must be our Ozzie lingo lol throwing you Pete..lol

Very interesting to look at such a very high quality picture of this fine ship, of those days. Big crew, or did she carry passengers as well??

Amazing photo & by coincidence she's one of my favourite coasters from the 50s! Excellent post, Mike!

Pennant No.6 signals the harbour destination is Walsh Bay, white flag means master has a pilotage exemption for Sydney port.

Great shot of an old Australian Mike, ty very much. You can always tell an oldtimer Aussie ship, most had a cargo winch cab at every hatch.
